KUTX Song of the Day - "Sunshine Come" 9/29/2025

Despite the name, Austin’s the Lonesome Heroes have been releasing music and playing shows for a whopping 21 years. To mark the occasion, they’re gifting their audience with a bit of their live faire with Live & Lonesome at the Purple Bee, a collection of songs recorded at the hybrid recording studio and live concert streaming venue Purple Bee Studios, located in Volente, TX.

In this live recording, 21 years of songwriting together and cohesion on stage are front and center with country blues strings dancing through a bed that two-steps between Americana and a crescendo building to a big, jubulent finish. “Sunshine Come” will have you turning your living room into a dance floor, so boot-up, grab a partner, and get ready to cut a rug.

ALT Country Revisited Weekly Showcase at Hole In the Wall

Thank you Austin Chronicle for the sweet words about our November Showcase and New Record Almost Aluminum!!!

"Fifteen years ago, before the White Horse or Sagebrush, the Lonesome Heroes forged a local alt.country scene with their Wednesday night residency at the Hole in the Wall, helping catalyze the fringes of an emergent Americana in Austin. Now the band’s ever-evolving lineup around troubadouring frontman Rich Russell celebrates its 20th anniversary with a new album – the nostalgia-ripped Almost Aluminum – and makes HITW home base once more throughout November. The first Wednesday showcase gathers the Beth Chrisman and Silas Lowe folkgrass collaboration Lost Patterns and David Longoria’s mellow melodies and provocative guitar-picking as Longriver. – Doug Freeman

Thank You Austin Chronicle for the sweet write up!

Reignite your Texas twang with the Lonesome Heroes, stirrers of an Americana- and country-infused psychedelic melting pot. The band’s latest, Seasons Change, takes the scenic route to Western Swing (“Black Coffee & 3 Cigarettes”), serene strums (“Everything’s Been Looking Up”), and honky-tonk ballads (Warm Tears & Honey”). Bandleader Rich Russell brings seering optimism to the album’s raspy, textured vocals. In 10 tracks, the group explores jaunty electric peaks (“Prayer and Gasoline”) and mellow, violin-laden valleys (“Footsteps”). The lap steel strings of Slow Motion Cowboys and the folk rock radiance of Sarah Burton join the night.  – Miranda Garza

KUTX 98.9 - The Lonesome Heroes: “Placebo Sun” [Music Video Premiere]

"So even though roller skating may be most closely associated to disco (at least historically speaking), there’s an Austin outfit putting those trucks on a whole new set of wheels. That’s The Lonesome Heroes, who’ve endured the rinks of the local live scene (and far beyond) for nearly twenty years now, weaving between the best parts of indie, country, and Americana. Most recently, this veteran quintet scored another milestone with their sixth LP Seasons Change, which has already racked up some impressive streaming numbers in the short time since its November release.

And in line with frontman Rich Russell’s decision to open up the record’s writing process to a few Austin friends, these hometown heroes are lookin’ a little less lonesome in the album opener “Placebo Sun”‘s new music video…as a matter of fact they rounded up a whole roller posse to kick off their boots and strap on some skates!"

Austin Chronicle Recommended Show - Lonesome Heroes Season's Change Release

Rich Russell and his band of merry rockers load up LP six, Seasons Change, which cuts more subtly than their usual brand of jangled Americana. Apt to the title, the album turns through thoughts of getting older, life on the road, and wild flashes of revelation. Fifteen years in, Russell’s voice cuts dustier, his heart a little wearier, but his eyes still glow with wonder. Lasso opens with their supernatural psych-country jams, along with Hayden Butler’s cool croon and Ellis Bullard’s Piss-Hot Freightlining Country Music. – Doug Freeman
